Pakistan Commissioner for Indus water has informed that discharge of  26,380 Cusecs has been released at 0630  hours PST  on 21-09-2008 from Harike (India)  at Sutlej River. Keeping in view of the above information the Discharge in river  Sutlej at Ganda singh Wala is likely to range between 16000 to 26000 Cusecs during the period from 02:00 PST of 22-09-2008 to 02:00 PST of 23-09-2008.

Pakistan Commissioner for Indus water has informed that discharge of  52,081 Cusecs has been released at 0630  hours PST  on 21-08-2008 from Harike (India)  at Sutlej River. Keeping in view of the above information the Discharge in river  Sutlej at Ganda singh Wala is likely to decrease from LOW  Flood level to BELOW LOW (normal) during next 12 hours, ranging between 50,000 FALLING  40,000 cusecs.

SIGNIFICANT FLOOD  ADVISORY FOR SUTLEJ RIVER :

             

                        Pakistan Commissioner for Indus water has informed that discharge of  107,300 Cusecs has been released at 1130  hours PST  on 14-08-2008 from Rupar (India)  at Sutlej River. This discharge is expected to reach Ganda Singh Wala after 1200 hours PST on 16-08-2008 (Today) with a flow of approximately 50,000  to 80,000 Cusecs, (LOW to  MEDIUM FLOOD LEVEL).

All the concerned authorities are requested to take precautionary measures to avoid  any loss of  human lives and  property due to inundation of low lying areas and alongwith  river bank in districts Kasur & Okara (Kanganpur, Baseerpur & Attari).

SIGNIFICANT FLOOD  ADVISORY FOR SUTLEJ RIVER :

             

                        Pakistan Commissioner for Indus water has informed that discharge of  107,300 Cusecs has been released at 1130  hours PST  on 14-08-2008 from   Rupar (India)  at Sutlej River. This discharge is expected to reach Ganda Singh Wala after 1200 hours PST on 16-08-2008 with a flow of approximately 70,000  to 100,000 Cusecs. Though this water level is in MEDIUM FLOOD LEVEL, but the river bed  might be in use for living purpose and cultivation by the local inhabitants along side the river bank in the areas of districts Kasur and Okara (Kanganpur, Baseerpur and Attari) and Bahawalnagar. This advisory has been issued in wake of the fact that no significant inflow has been experienced in sutlej river for the last ten years.

All the concerned authorities are requested to take precautionary measures to avoid  any loss of  human lives and  property due to inundation of low lying areas, Kachas  and Bellas.

High  flood ranging between 2,00,000 to 2,80,000 cusecs is expected in River Chenab at Khanki during the

            period from 1800 PST of 03-08-2008 to 1800 PST of 04-08-2008.

           

High  flood ranging between 2,00,000 to 2,60,000 cusecs is expected in River Chenab at Qadirabad 

            Low lying areas of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad,mandibahauddin districts around the riverbed

            May cause inundation.

Significant Flood/Flash Flood Forecast for Next 24 Hours

Meteorological Feature:   

 (a)  A westerly wave is moving across Northern parts of Afghanistan and adjoining areas of  Pakistan.

(b)   Strong monsoon current from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea is reaching Punjab and Kashmir upto seven thousand feet.

(c)  Well marked seasonal low lies over Balochistan.

Punjab: 

Widespread Thunderstorm-Rain with moderate to heavy falls at isolated places is expected in south Punjab. Flash flooding is expected in the hill torrents of D.G.Khan & Rajanpur districts.

N.W.F.P: 

Widespread Thunderstorm-Rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over upper NWFP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat divisions). Flash flood/land sliding is expected in low lying & hilly areas.

Kashmir (including earthquake affected areas) & Northern Areas:

 Widespread Thunderstorm-Rain with moderate to heavy falls at isolated places is expected in Kashmir. Land sliding is also expected.

Sindh:

Thunderstorm-Rain with isolated heavy falls is possible over upper Sindh resulting in  Urban flooding.

Balochistan:            

Scattered Thunderstorm-Rain with isolated heavy falls likely over Northeastern parts of Balochistan (Barkhan, Zhob, Musa Khel, Kohlo, Lora Lai, Qila Saif Ullah, Dera Bughti, Dera Murad Jamali, Sibbi Areas). Flash flooding in nullahs & riverines is also expected in hilly areas.

As per satellite imageries and localized hydro-meteorological conditions over south Punjab, the inundation of low lying areas resulting in urban flooding in Multan, Sahiwal, Khenawal, Vehari & Lodhran districts (Multan division), D.G.Khan, Muzaffargrah, Leiah & Rajanpur districts (D.G.Khan division) and Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar & Rahim Yar Khan districts (Bahawalpur  division). Traffic jam, collapse of kucha houses, breakdown of electricity etc are expected during next 24 hours i.e. 1200 Hrs PST of 01-08-2008 to 1400 Hrs PST of 02-08-2008.
