Introduction |
|
Pakistan Meteorological Department is both a scientific and a service department. It works 24 hours a day, all year round, to improve the quality of life of all people. Its early and reliable warnings of occurrence of severe weather and climate events allow decision makers, communities and individuals to be better prepared and thus help save life and property, protect resources and the environment and avoid socio-economic setbacks. Weather, climate and water have a major impact on socio-economic development. Accurate observations and predictions and the free and timely exchange of information about weather, climate and water are ensured due to its vital importance. Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics was established in 1958 and it is providing training to in-service personnel in Meteorology. Currently internationally recognized courses up to MS level in Meteorology are offered. Trainees from Meteorological Services of other Countries are also welcome. The courses of various levels are designed for the new-comers in the field of Meteorology as well as for those who have acquired sufficient experience in the field and require higher training. The syllabi of courses provided at the Institute have been prepared mainly according to the pattern recommended in the World Meteorological Organization Technical Publications No.258 and No.114. The courses aim to provide both theoretical and practical background to students and to fully equip them for the job, which they are going to take up after completion of training. |
