Lahore, Park View – The inauguration ceremony of the Park View embankment was held today at 6 pm, where senior PTI leader Aleem Khan announced a relief package worth Rs. 1 billion for residents affected by the recent flooding. The package has been designed to provide financial assistance to residents according to the actual losses they suffered.
Flood Impact and Site Visit
In his address, Aleem Khan said that two weeks ago, on Thursday night, heavy rains and flooding created severe difficulties in the area. He shared that flood had entered four to five blocks of the society, and he himself had visited various affected areas. He further highlighted that in nearby villages, thousands of homes were submerged under water, and considering the scale of destruction, immediate measures were required.
Promise to Residents
He stated that just a day or two after the disaster, he had recorded a message for the residents, assuring them that Park View would stand with them through every difficult time. “Today, I stand before you to announce that Park View has taken all necessary decisions for your safety, including the construction of an embankment and the launch of a relief package,” he said.
Embankment Construction and Features
Aleem Khan announced that the embankment will be approximately 6 to 7 kilometers long and 30 feet high (around 3–7 meters), and it will be completed within the next 100 days. The embankment will be built behind Park View Society along the Ravi River, surrounding the society to ensure no block remains exposed to flooding. He further added that a jogging track, a landscaped green belt, and exclusive access for residents will be constructed on top of the embankment, while non-members will not be allowed to use it.
Staircases have also been built alongside, and a complete model is already prepared for residents to view. To ensure safety, the area will be equipped with security guards and surveillance cameras.
Fair Reporting of Damages
He urged residents to report their damages truthfully and responsibly, so that compensation can be distributed fairly. Assessment teams will visit every block and house individually to provide compensation, so residents will not need to go anywhere themselves. He clarified that as the water levels varied across different streets, compensation will also be given accordingly.
Emphasis on Honest Claims
Aleem Khan emphasized that residents must not exaggerate their losses. “If someone has suffered a loss of Rs. 1 million, they should report exactly that — not inflate it to Rs. 2 million. Otherwise, it will leave us with regret, thinking about what we are doing for them and what they are doing to us in return,” he remarked.
Compensation Methodology
Compensation will be divided on a plot-wise and street-wise basis to ensure accurate financial aid distribution.
Waiver of Development Charges
As part of the package, development charges have also been waived for two months in the five blocks that were heavily affected by the flooding. Aleem Khan assured that anyone building a new home in Park view will be allowed to do so without any additional development charges.
Key Infrastructure Developments
He also confirmed that LESCO has approved a grid station for Park View, marking a major step forward in strengthening the society’s infrastructure.
Aleem Khan reiterated
Aleem Khan reiterated that those who suffered greater losses would receive proportionately higher compensation. He also stressed that his partners have been included in the process so that the project can be executed collaboratively.
Residents’ Response
Residents present at the event expressed their relief and gratitude, hoping that these measures will help mitigate the impact of any potential flooding in the future.
